More Postponing

Currently, my group and I are faced with a lot of obstacles. We are fighting to overcome the obstacles and meet up as a group. If the coronavirus wasn´t already making it extremely difficult for us to meet up. Because of everything that has shut down. And that some parents are scared that their kids will obtain the virus so are not letting them outside. It is spring break and my parents decided that will stop at nothing for us to go on holiday. So that my mom can enjoy her birthday outside my cramped house. Because airports are closed they decided to go somewhere local; the Florida Keys. It is close to where we live but just far enough so that I would not be able to meet up with my group mates. It is about an hour-forty minute drive from where I live to the Keys. Making it just far enough so that we could not meet up.
My parents have decided to stay in the Keys until Sunday. That is only two more days but then the coronavirus plays a factor. My groupmates and I fear that in those two short days the coronavirus situation will get worse. To the point where we may not be let outside unless it is for necessary reasons. Reasons such as getting groceries or getting medication. Which means that we will not be able to film. Also if it does get worse but to as an extreme case, it will be hard for some of my group mates that have stricter parents to persuade to go outside and film. So finishing up will be postponed or made at not the same quality. So, what my group hopes happen is either the virus gets cured, or the due date gets pushed back.

Postponing the Editing

Due to events out of my control, it has become more difficult for my group and me to finish the film and produce our final product. That is because a virus which is now a pandemic called coronavirus. This disease is a strain of the flue. And the reason why it is so dangerous is because of its higher mortality rate than the average flue. On top of that, it is highly contagious and we do not have a cure for it. This disease first started in China and has made its way across the world. So, because it is killing so many people and we do not have a vaccine for it our government is taking precautionary measures.
Where I live, in Florida, schools have been temporarily postponed until April 16th. This means that we have to do online school. Transitioning from the different ways to teach has been a bit confusing but we are getting used to it. However, having said that, not much has changed for this class because it was primarily online in the first place. This makes it easier but we still have to film outdoors which is an obstacle. Because, some of my group members' parents are apprehensive letting their kids out because of how contagious the virus is. On top of that, a lot of places have closed down due to the virus. This doesn't affect my group as much as it does others but, if conditions get worse, we might not be able to reshoot at the cemetery. And we also have probably not even seen the worst of this virus. So if it does get worse and school is postponed for a longer period of time it leads us to question what we will do with the Cambridge exams. And if they get exempted like the state exams will we get the credit. These are all obstacles presented to us because of the coronavirus.

Finishing up Editing

Today we finished up on our editing. Last time my group and I got a lot done. We finished most of the necessary editing the last time that we met up. But, we did not finish because we ran into a roadblock and didn't have the patience or attention span to keep going. And in an effort for everyone to be level headed when we edit so that we get our best work. My group and I decided to finish up editing on a different day.
That day was yesterday. My group and I worked on it in our Media studies class. We got more of it done there but we were a little distracted because there were our friend their so we did a little more talking than working. So, in an effort to get back on track we all met up during study hall. Here it would be more quieter so that we can all focus. And that worked, during our study hall we got a lot more done because of the more tranquil atmosphere.
In study hall we did indeed finish up editing. And during that time period the most controversial obstacle that we ran into was how to finish our film. We were debating between a fade out and just cutting it out. The reason group members wanted a fade out is because it would make the movie look more clean and professional. But others wanted it to just cut off so that the suspension is added. We were debating about this when the bell signaled us to switch classes. So we just saved everything that we had and will talk about what we have to do later. When we have more time and we can finish up editing our film for good.

Editing the Final Task

Today my group and I started really working on our editing. Unlike the other times we edited this was the first time that we sat down for a long time and really attempted for make everything as smooth as possible. After sitting back and watching our rough draft film multiple times we started editing. At first it was a little hard because the scope on what to fix was so hard we found it hard to figure out what we needed to change and still have a gripping film with the same general theme. My group and I also debated a lot on what we should edit at the beginning. This was because of the previously stated broad scope, and the different paths that every member wanted to take. Some members wanted to make the film have more cuts so that it shows high tension. While other member (like me) wanted less cuts because it does a better job of grasping the audiences attention. So, after time debating we reached a solution. We compromised on the amount of edits and did a little of both techniques.
After the compromise was reached it was almost smooth sailing from there. We did have a little bit more hiccups along the road but for the majority everyone was able to spot room for improvement and agreed on what to do for the most part. A main contributor to that was the fact that everyone was really focused and felt up for it today. However, having said that, not all minds think alike and we did end debating on some edits. An example is when the main character was walking to the house. We debated on how many different shot we should incorporate of the character walking. This argument, like a few others that happened while editing, was about how many edits should be in the film. Again some people wanted more than other people and vise versa. But in the end we came to a compromise of two different shots. And that was another hurdle overcome.
Also, while editing the peer review came in handy. The sheet that we got back helped us out in a lot of different ways. The first way being is it helped spot flaws in our editing. While granted most of the flaws they found were major ones it still helped us save time. That time saved later allowed us to go through the film with a fine-tooth-comb and really fix the minor edits. The peer review also helped in different ways. Sometimes when we argued on a point  and took a vote it would result in a tie. That is because we have four member in our group and some debates would be split down the middle. When this happened we would look at the peer review to be the tie-breaker. This was also helpful because it save us valuable time that we would later use for more specific edits.

Peer Editing

Today in class we did peer reviewing of our other classmate's films. And from that sentence, you can tell that we finished our movie. After a lot of days filming we managed to get our film to the quality that we wanted. However, having said that our film is still missing that 'wow' factor. And my group could not quite figure out how to fill that void. Our main theory is the editing but we were not sure. So we are looking forward to this peer review. That is because we hope that they did have answers for us. Which would help our film reach that next level.
It turns, the group that we got was really helpful. They left helpful comments on our film. They also lent another outside perspective into our film. Which made interesting on what they thought. They also agreed that we should try to put in better edits between one or two cuts. My group also peer reviewed someone else's film. That was equally as helpful. Peer reviewing someone else gave us some good ideas that we can incorporate into our film. And we tried to be helpful to them lending them some constructive criticism.
