Filming

Today I'm going to talk about the filming blog. However, there is a problem to that statement. My group and I have not filmed yet. That is for a couple of reasons. One being that the deadline is not for a while. So we plan on filming later because that then leaves us more time to critique our story board and make any changes we feel will improve the music video. The other reason that we have not started filming is because Amelia will be going on holiday to Dallas and is going to film some of it there. And based on how that goes dictates on what we do for the rest video. It will determine the camera angles we use. It will also determine the lighting that we use. Those are some reasons we have not started filming the music video yet.
There are also some obstacles that are holing us back from editing. An example would be extra curricular activities. For example, I play for a football for a club. And because of that filming time would would be cut because of practice and games. Amelia also plays a sport, volleyball. Which means she also couldn't film all the time because of practice and games. The other group member (Gavin) does a lot of after school activities and is invested in a lot of clubs. This means that filming after school would be a rare occasion. And because of that a date were all of us are free has not yet occurred. That is another reason why we have not yet filmed.
The final reason why we have not filmed is because the holidays are coming and we planned on filming during then. Thanksgiving is a couple days away and we plan filming then. That is because we will have more time because extra curricular won't be happening. There also won't be school which means we have more time to film. And because there is no school we would be allowed to film at different time of the days. We also could film later at night because there is no school the next day. The other pro to filming on holiday break is that we have more time. That is because we are not limited to go around school hours. That is why we are not filming yet. My group and I are waiting for those things to happen.

Story Board

Above are my group’s storyboards. We tried to make each box, or shot, as detailed and feasible as possible so when we actually film it flows smoothly. Before we drew the storyboard illustrations, however, we had to decide upon a strict Mis En Scene.
-Costumes: To start, the clothing we planned on having Amelia (the the main actor) wear is fashionable and trendy. This is not only to catch the audience’s attention but to also demonstrate why she is so popular.
-Lighting: When it comes to the lighting in our music video, we have to resort to natural because our music video is mostly being filmed outside. We understand that this may be risky because of the fact that filming outside increases our chances to run into unpredictable weather patterns such as rain and cloudy skies.
-Actors: Our music video is only going to consist of one main person/actor: Amelia Hudson. She will be portraying a popular celebrity in the original Disney film Starstruck. We believe she will best convey our music video’s theme because she knows the most about the movie.
-Makeup: Amelia will most likely apply foundation, mascara, and eye shadow before we start filming the music video. This is because we want to show the audience why everyone is raving about her.
-Setting: Amelia is planning on filming the music video when she is in Texas. She thinks the cold weather will make the setting more appealing to the audience.
-Props:When it comes to props, we plan on creating posters. We think that the posters will help show the popularity that the main actor has.

My group and I also had to decide and agree on what camera angles, movements, and shots we wanted to include in our video. The camera angles that we decided to use includes tilts, eye level shots, and close ups. The shots will help the audience understand the character’s personality. The camera angles that our group decided to use are tracking shots and pans. This will help create a smoother music video. It will also allow for the audience to have a better understanding of what is going on.

Here is our story board:

Planning Blog

Today my group and I planned for our music video. This was a little bit more tricky than planning the commercial. That is because there are more elements to a music video compared to a commercial. While you don’t have to worry about the dialogue in a music video there are other things to worry about. For example, a music video has to be twice as long as a commercial we have to make up dance moves to go with the video. The other reason the music video will be tricky is because of its complexity and how it will have to make it flow. However, having said that we are still looking forward to the music video. That is because although it is more complex it will be the second film that we will of created. Not only that, but my group and I have come up with some good ideas since the commercial that we are willing to test out in the music video. Especially some features in the editing field.
However enough comparisons between the two projects. Let’s talk about the technical side and what we plan to do with the music video. For the music video we are planning on doing one continuous shot. We understand the difficulties in accomplishing that but we plan on pushing ourselves this project. However, we will be filming in a secluded place so there will not be that many outside distractions that will occur. Our lead singer will also be a women. This will help develop the theme of women empowerment. Even though in the actual video a male is the main character. That is an basic summary on how the music video will go. Now to the shots that we will be using.
My group and I have decided to use a variety of shots. The shot that we will most likely use the most is the tracking shot. That is because the music video will be all one clip so there needs to be change somehow. Also we will use a tracking shot because the main character will constantly be walking and we need something to keep up with it. We will also use a pan to capture the establishing shot and all of the actors. The tilt shot will be used to introduce the main character. That shot will also be used again to help support the theme of that we chose. Other factors such as porops have also been chosen. My group and I have decided to go with regular clothing to relate to the ordinary person. The choice of props will also add to the theme. That is what my group has planned for the music video.

Music Project

Today we start working on a new project. My group and I have finished the commercial and we are now beginning to plan the music video. We are fairly confident going into the music video because we have already made a film. However, having said that there are some things that were difficult in the first blog. For example, the editing was hard to understand because there were so many things that you could edit in a film that my group got lost. But, now we have experience with editing in pinnacle studios so it should be easier the second time. Other than that, we are excited to do this project.
After minutes of debate, we chose the song Starstruck. This song is included or introduced in the Disney Channel film Starstruck. Coincidence, I think not. We wanted to do this song because it is upbeat and easy to understand. We already know all the words to this song. This movie is a moving story about a girl who meets a teen idol. We believe we can capture the main idea of the movie, which is don't judge appearances.

1. Costume: The costumes that we will be using are regular clothing. That is because captures the real life look that we intend to get.
2. Lighting: The lighting that we are using is lighter/ brighter lighting. That is to keep the upbeat and positive tone that we are trying to acquire.
3. Actors: Amelia is going to be the lead actor. This is because she would best portray the image of the girl the pop star falls in love with.
4. Make-up: We are not going to use makeup. This is because we want to highlight the importance of natural beauty.
5. Props: we will need paper, cameras, stationary, and sunglasses
6. setting: amelia will be filming the music video when she is out of town over thanksgiving break. We think this will provide a authentic and unique look.

Editing Blog (Part 2)

For the last 2 classes my group member and I have been working on editing our commercial. For those of you who do not know what I'm talking about, my teacher assigned a commercial to do. My group and I decided to advertise the school. I explained the filming process in another blog. And today, we are finally editing. My teacher where able to get some computers that worked and had pinnacle studios on it for almost the entire class. Pinnacle studios is an editing platform. So, when we started editing on Tuesday my group was nervous. But, mainly we wanted to get editing over with. But enough with the events about leading up to the editing process, lets talk about editing.
We started with dumping, and in all we had 47 pictures and videos! Of all those pictures and videos we needed to cut it all down into a 30 second commercial. At first this was overwhelming being our first attempt to edit but it got easier. Most of it was just multiple shots of one scene so we chose our favorite one based on certain factors. Factors like the light, the sound, and how well the actor did. When we completed that task we still had about a 45 seconds of footage and nothing placed chronologically. So that was the next thing that we did we placed all the clips as chronologically as we could and then the clips that didn't quite fit were deleted. After we got to the 30 second mark we started on the less broader editing. And worked on thing like transitions and the lighting. Unfortunately, at this time the class had finished and we needed to save everything into a folder.
On Thursday (the second day of editing) we picked up where we left off and and kept doing the transition and lighting. We did this for a little longer than anticipated because we wanted it to be perfect. But, my group and I eventually finished and moved on to the sound affects that we were going to use. We didn't want to use to many sound affects because we were relying on diegetic sound. But on one of the clips one of my group mates noticed that you hear a siren from a fire truck in the background. That became a problem because we did not want to import background music because you would not be able to hear the speaker as well. So what we ended up doing is making the sound of the siren as low as possible. Because unfortunately, we couldn't erase it. When we got over that hurdle, it was smooth sailing. And we finished editing our commercial.
