Editing Blog (Part 2)

For the last 2 classes my group member and I have been working on editing our commercial. For those of you who do not know what I'm talking about, my teacher assigned a commercial to do. My group and I decided to advertise the school. I explained the filming process in another blog. And today, we are finally editing. My teacher where able to get some computers that worked and had pinnacle studios on it for almost the entire class. Pinnacle studios is an editing platform. So, when we started editing on Tuesday my group was nervous. But, mainly we wanted to get editing over with. But enough with the events about leading up to the editing process, lets talk about editing.
We started with dumping, and in all we had 47 pictures and videos! Of all those pictures and videos we needed to cut it all down into a 30 second commercial. At first this was overwhelming being our first attempt to edit but it got easier. Most of it was just multiple shots of one scene so we chose our favorite one based on certain factors. Factors like the light, the sound, and how well the actor did. When we completed that task we still had about a 45 seconds of footage and nothing placed chronologically. So that was the next thing that we did we placed all the clips as chronologically as we could and then the clips that didn't quite fit were deleted. After we got to the 30 second mark we started on the less broader editing. And worked on thing like transitions and the lighting. Unfortunately, at this time the class had finished and we needed to save everything into a folder.
On Thursday (the second day of editing) we picked up where we left off and and kept doing the transition and lighting. We did this for a little longer than anticipated because we wanted it to be perfect. But, my group and I eventually finished and moved on to the sound affects that we were going to use. We didn't want to use to many sound affects because we were relying on diegetic sound. But on one of the clips one of my group mates noticed that you hear a siren from a fire truck in the background. That became a problem because we did not want to import background music because you would not be able to hear the speaker as well. So what we ended up doing is making the sound of the siren as low as possible. Because unfortunately, we couldn't erase it. When we got over that hurdle, it was smooth sailing. And we finished editing our commercial.
